Promoting Diversity Management

1. Promotion of Diversity Management

On the assumption of future issues such as the further business globalization, the labor shortage problem caused by the aging of our society and falling birthrates, the arrival of the human rights respecting society, we established ”Diversity Promotion Department, ” a diversity promotion organization, for the promotion of the diversity management in the 2009 fiscal year.

We are intended to become a creative organization by using diversity of human resources (e.g. gender, age, nationality) and creating an environment where each one of us can exercise own abilities to the fullest.

◎Transition in the Number of Women in Creative Personnel

Example of promoting job opportunities for women

We launched ”K-Wing (Kubota Women's Initiative Diversity Network & Group)” as a place for human exchange for the improvement of female employees' abilities and motivations. This is helpful to support career formation of female employees.

2. Development of Global Human Resources

While keeping in step with the global business development, we have been working on human resources development by conducting cross-cultural understanding training and one-month language training in USA and Asia for new employees (hired as creative personnel) in addition to various trainee systems where trainees can experience work overseas in order to develop human resources who can be globally active.

Besides, engineers and technicians of the mother plant in Japan have been visiting overseas plants to instruct monozukuri (manufacturing). On a technology front, we have been systematizing global standards.

3. Promotion of Employment of Persons with Disabilities

In accordance with our philosophy that “persons with disabilities also have the right to work in society, and companies have an obligation to create and offer job opportunities for them,” we established Kubota Sun-Vege Farm following the establishment of Kubota Works (a specified subsidiary* established in 2003) to work on the promotion of employment of persons with disabilities. We will continue to pursuit the ease of work for persons with disabilities and move step-by-step to create a situation where more persons with disabilities can work together.

See the website for details of Kubota Sun-Vege Farm.

(*) Specified subsidiary system: When a parent company establishes a subsidiary that gives special consideration to persons with disabilities, the parent company is accorded precedence in some aspects such as the calculation of the legal employment rate of persons with disabilities and the supply of subsidies in order to promote the employment of persons with disabilities. (Governing law: Act on Employment Promotion etc. of Persons with Disabilities)

【Establishment of Kubota Sun-Vege Farm Co., Ltd.】

Aiming to seek the support of independence of persons with disabilities and their coexistence with local communities and to use abandoned cultivated fields to support activation of agriculture of Japan, we established Kubota Sun-Vege Farm Co., Ltd. in February 2010. We are planning to hire 10 persons with disabilities for hydroponic vegetable cultivation so that their vegetables will be sold in company cafeterias of the Kubota Group in the immediate future.
